The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has begun probing a petition brought before it by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas against the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, and former Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen.
Tiger Eye PI, a private investigative firm, petitioned the CHRAJ to investigate Charles Adu Boahen and Ken Ofori-Atta for their involvement in conflicts of interest and the use of their companies to purchase government shares while performing their duties as state officials; the petition was filed on November 21.
According to the Commissioner for CHRAJ, Joseph Akanjolenur Whittal, the petition made by Anas came with documents, documentary evidence, and a pen drive regarding the Galamsey Economy expose, hence the need for them to assess them within the requirements of their regulations.
“The allegations are that there is a conflict of interest in terms of their official duties as public officers and the companies in which they have interest in terms of government bonds, and so the case is going through the standard process of assessment in order to make sure that it meets procedural requirements under the Commission’s regulation as well as whether it is really within the mandate of the Commission.”
“Based on that, we will then decide what next steps to take,” Joseph Whittal stated.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor has already begun an investigation into the corruption allegation against the former Minister of State in the Galamsey Economy expose, while the Finance Minister is also facing a vote of censure by the minority members of Parliament.
