The Management of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has confirmed the death of a middle-aged male passenger who arrived from the United States on Friday, June 17, 2022.

In a statement released on Saturday, it said that the passenger, whose name is yet to be released, flew in with a relative on June 18 from Dulles Airport, Washington, DC.

It noted further that the passenger complained of tiredness and difficulty breathing, following which a ground handler offered him a wheelchair. “The passenger became unconscious at the arrival hall and received medical attention but was unresponsive. He was conveyed to the airport polyclinic where he subsequently passed away, “it added.

The statement said the incident has been reported to the Airport Police Station, pending investigation.

Meanwhile, another passenger, who reportedly witnessed the final moments of the deceased passenger, believes the passenger shouldn’t have died.

The passenger in a remark on Facebook said:

“I witnessed the last 10 minutes of a man’s life…at the arrival hall at Kotoka. There was no first aid kit, no defibrillator, no oxygen, no assistance… no medic personnel. man was uneasy and a friend helped him to sit, and within minutes, just like that, he rolled his eyes and dropped dead. We kept yelling for help, medical assistance, something, and a nurse showed up with a medical bag filled with paracetamol and plaster. My heart is broken. Could he have been saved? Possibly if there was proper first aid. We have the most expensive cars and houses in Ghana and no first aid kit to save a life? “
