The police administration has assured the public of additional local security measures before, during, and after the FIFA 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

In a statement, the police acknowledged the euphoria that comes with the sporting event as well as the security implications but indicated that plans are in place to maintain law and order in the country, including public viewing centers.

“As the 2022 tournament kicks off on Sunday, November 20, 2022, the Police Department would like to assure the public that adequate security measures have been put in place to maintain security, law, and order in the country during the event and beyond.”

The statement continued: “Members of the public who intend to organize public viewings of the tournament at specially designated places are advised to contact police regional, divisional, and district commands for further security directives.”

It urged the public to be cautious of security during the tournament as they worked to ensure a peaceful and incident-free event.

The opening ceremony of the Qatar World Cup will take place at Al Bayt Stadium ahead of the opening clash between Qatar and Ecuador on November 20.

The Black Stars will play their first match against Portugal at Stadium 974 in Doha on November 24 at 4 p.m.
