Pregnant women have been advised to ensure and maintain personal hygiene to prevent bad or unwanted scents and filth-induced ailments that may be produced as a result of dirtiness.
Speaking in an interview with Gye Nyame FM’s Kwaku Mensah Abrampa, Madam Juliana Kyeraa-Twih, a nurse at the Sampa Government Hospital, stated that the maintenance of personal hygiene among some pregnant women is a bit challenging. Hence, the need for pregnant women to ensure their bodies are kept clean, indicating that living in a hygienic way when pregnant attracts health workers to attend to you when they visit the hospital and makes you attractive to their partners.
She stated that unsanitary living conditions among pregnant women lead to low self-esteem and drive husbands away due to the bad odors that may be produced; thus, the need for sanitary living conditions among pregnant women.
She further pleaded with partners of pregnant women to assist them in clearing their pubic parts during their last trimester of the pregnancy journey to keep them clean and hygienic.
Madam Agnes Bosuo, who is a nurse practitioner at the Sampa Government Hospital, advised the men to offer the needed support to their wives when pregnant, asking them to escort their pregnant wives to antenatal and postnatal care to facilitate the work of the nurses towards the pregnant women.
Madam Bosuo also advised the female youths to desist from having multiple partners in a relationship to make it easier for partner identification when pregnant.
She said most female youth get pregnant without knowing their partner as a result of multiple relationships and end up adding to the burdens of their parents and guardians.
