The West Africa Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results for the 2022 West Africa Senior Certificate Examinations for schools in Ghana.

The Council noted in a statement on Monday, signed by its Head of Public Affairs, Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, that candidates can access their results by visiting the Council’s website, www.waecgh.org.

A total of 422,833 candidates, made up of 203,753 males and 219,130 females from 977 schools, sat for the examination, which is 5.52% lower than the previous year’s number. About 2,818 students, representing 0.67% of the registrants, were absent from the examination.

The 2022 results saw improvements in English Language, Core Mathematics, and Social Studies, with 60.39%, 61.39%, and 71.51%, respectively, of candidates obtaining between A1 and C6, as compared with last year’s numbers of 54.08%, 54.11%, and 66.03%.

However, in the case of integrated science, 62.45% of candidates were recorded between A1 and C6 for this year, as opposed to last year’s of 65.70%.

252,502 (60.39%), 256,264 (61.39%), 260,335 (62.45%), and 298,327 (71.51%) candidates got between A1 and C6 in English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science, and Social Studies, respectively.

On the other hand, 134,103 (39.61%), 105,685 (38.61%), 98,565 (37.55%), and 100,185 (28.49%) candidates got between A1 and C6 in English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science, and Social Studies, respectively.

According to the statement, the subject results of 3,845 candidates were cancelled for introducing foreign material into the examination hall, while the entire results of 518 candidates were cancelled for keeping mobile phones in the hall.

Also, the council withheld the entire results of 117 candidates pending investigations into alleged impersonation.

Scripts of candidates from 179 schools are being scrutinised for collusion.

Meanwhile, WAEC has apologized to Action Secondary Technical School (ASTS) in Madina for citing it in a “syndicate cheating” malpractice. The council mentioned Madina Senior High School, whose students were writing their exams on the premises of ASTS, as the culpable school.
