The President of the NABCO Trainees’ Association of Ghana (NABTAG), Mr. Dennis Opoku Katakyie, has bemoaned the government’s inability to pay the remaining 9 months’ allowances due them.
Speaking in an interview with Mr. Speaker on the Kessben Maakye program monitored by Kwaku Mensah Abrampa, Mr. Dennis Opoku Katakyie indicated that it is unfortunate for the government to engage them to work for over 10 months without paying them their stipends.
He explained that after the extension of their 3-year contract with the government, which ended last September, they had worked for over 10 months with only one month of their allowances paid.
He indicated that although they appreciate the effort of the government in giving them employment opportunities, they are not impressed with how issues relating to their allowances are being handled with the payment of only one month out of 10 months of unpaid allowances.
He pleaded with the government to pay them the remaining months’ allowances at the end of this month.
The NABTAG President, in a statement dated September 23, 2022, expressed its appreciation to the NABCO secretariat and the government for paying one month out of the outstanding 10 months.
The group, however, reiterated its intent to push authorities if the remaining nine months are not settled “within the shortest possible time.”
“If after a considerable period of time, arrears for the remaining months are not fully paid, the leadership will take another draconian measure to forcibly ensure that we are paid. We have done it before, so we can do it again, “Mr. Katakyie noted.
