The Youth Employment Agency has disclosed that it will pay a monthly stipend of GHC 400 to SHS graduates who will be enrolled in the Community Health and Planning Services (CHPS) programme.
In an interview with Citi TV on Wednesday, Corporate Affairs Director of the Agency, Emmanuel Kwasi Afriyie, said that his outfit is committed to ensuring the sustainability of the programme, which will take on 5,000 senior high school graduates.
“Since the time we had lawyer Justin Koduah as CEO till the time of my current boss, there has never been any instance where our beneficiaries have come out to complain about unpaid allowances. We manage our programmes very well, “he asserted.
He also stated that the personnel will assist in assisting with basic health care delivery at CHPS compounds in rural communities, such as taking medical records of patients and educating them on preventive health care. Mr. Afriyie, however, emphasised that they will not perform medical functions such as administering drugs and diagnosing patients, adding that the programme has the backing of the Ghana Health Service.
Criticisms have emerged about the programme, particularly from the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), who have argued that the programme will endanger the lives of people because the personnel who will be enrolled would not have been properly trained to provide such services.
