The African Medical Relief Foundation, a non-governmental organization which seeks to promote and encourage healthcare givers as well as their stakeholders in the health service community, is set to honor some hard-working and dedicated staff in the health community.
Speaking to the media at the launch of the program on the 23rd of September this year, the president of the foundation, Michael Gyekye, said Ghanaian healthcare givers, including those in the herbal industry, have all worked extra hard to contain the pandemic in the country.
According to him, the honor is to further propel all those in the health sector to continue to give their best despite the challenges they might have to encounter in their respective health stations.
He said the COVID-19 pandemic really showed how great Ghanaian health workers are, in that the pandemic really brought out the innovation and creativity of lots of Ghanaians, particularly those in the fashion industry, who designed and created face masks face shields, sanitizers isolation gowns, among several other items.
“We are honoring all hard-working health providers. If we look back at what COVID-19 did to us as a country, we will all attest to the fact that once we have curtailed the disease back into its place, there is also the need to encourage ourselves for the hard work that was put in by all,” he stressed.
He stated that Ghanaians are doing a lot to promote and change the face of health care delivery in this country, and that to indeed promote health care delivery in the country, there is a need for appreciation to be given to those in that sector to help bring out the very best in them; hence, the purpose of the award program, dubbed “Healthcare Excellence Awards 2023”.
According to him, there are two broad categories for the awards: first for those who supply health care materials and second for those who work with the given materials, including nurses, pharmacists, and doctors, some of whom work in the remotest parts of the country delivering quality healthcare to patients.
Mr. Gyekye also used the opportunity to call on donors or sponsors to come on board in supporting the initiative of the foundation.
The event will come off on March 31st, 2023 at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
