The Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Asiedu Nketiah, has assured Ghanaians that election-related killings from the 2016 general elections till date will be thoroughly investigated by the incoming Mahama administration, with perpetrators held accountable.

Speaking on Friday during a media interaction at the NDC headquarters in Accra, Mr. Nketiah made this pledge in response to calls by some New Patriotic Party (NPP) executives for President-elect John Dramani Mahama to rein in party supporters allegedly vandalizing state properties following the NDC’s victory in the December 7, 2024, elections.

Addressing these concerns, Mr. Nketiah criticized the NPP, urging them to reflect on their actions during the 2016 elections. “He [NPP executives] should go back to his roots and take stock of parliamentary candidates who have been shooting, killing, and maiming people across the country,” Mr. Nketiah stated.

He added that once any wrongdoing is identified, those involved would be given the opportunity to share their side of the story. However, he did not hold back on criticizing the NPP’s alleged role in past violence.

“If there is any need for lectures on impunity, then we will invite them as our lecturers. But if it is about democracy, they must shut up,” he remarked.

Mr. Nketiah reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to addressing electoral violence. “We are sending notice that all these violent acts, right from 2016 to date, will be properly investigated, and our electoral system and democracy will be cleaned,” he declared.

The NDC Chairman reiterated that the party remains steadfast in its pursuit of justice and its commitment to ensuring a robust and credible electoral system for the nation.
