The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has declared an indefinite strike effective Monday, November 24, 2025, citing the government’s failure to implement the National Labour Commission (NLC) arbitral award of May 2, 2023.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by President Maxwell Bunu and Secretary Fidelis Kamaayi, CETAG said the decision was taken at an emergency meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) on November 19, 2025.
According to the Association, the strike has become necessary due to the government’s persistent indifference and failure to honour its obligations under the binding arbitral award. CETAG said it remained committed to delivering quality teacher education but had been left with “no alternative” but to activate industrial action.
The group also accused the government of refusing to resolve outstanding issues, including the non-payment of all-year-round work compensation for additional duties performed in 2022. CETAG said only the Accra College of Education had received partial payment, leaving the other 39 colleges without the agreed compensation.
