The former Secretary to the defunct Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Charles Bissue, has presented himself to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
A statement from the OSP said Mr. Bissue turned himself in at 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2023.
According to the Office, it proceeded to arrest him, interrogate him, and later release him on bail.
Following Charles Bissue’s failure to appear in response to an invitation from the Special Prosecutor to appear and respond to inquiries on the ongoing investigation into potential corruption inside the IMCIM, the Office of the Special Prosecutor issued a wanted declaration for him last week.
In another statement on June 15, the OSP asserted that it has the legal power to arrest anyone without a warrant.
However, earlier on the same day (June 15), Mr. Bissue, through the Human Rights Division of the High Court in Accra, secured a 10-day interim injunction on the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), preventing his arrest.
The court also restrained the OSP and his assigns from executing an arrest warrant against Mr. Bissue, publishing a notice declaring him wanted, and applying for a further warrant of arrest within the 10-day period.
The hearing of the substantive case was scheduled by the court for tomorrow, June 22, 2023.
