The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) announced on Thursday that its nationwide strike will continue “unabated.”
The industrial action, which began on March 9, stems from the government’s failure to implement a separate salary structure for its members as outlined in a previous memorandum of understanding.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra, CLOGSAG Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe Addo said the decision followed a review by the union’s National Executive Council of recent government interventions.
“The National Executive Council of CLOGSAG reviewed all interventions that had been made in relation to the strike action embarked on by CLOGSAG from March 9. After deliberations, it was unanimously decided that the strike action should continue unabated,” he said.
The standoff persists despite an attempt by the National Labour Commission (NLC) to broker a resolution on March 11. CLOGSAG officials did not attend that meeting, citing a lack of formal notification.
While the NLC has rescheduled talks for March 18, the union is also waiting for the government to formalise previous verbal discussions.
“We have requested government that all the discussions we have had should be put into writing. We are yet to receive that,” Bampoe Addo noted.
He added that the union is concerned about the inconsistent implementation of the new pay structure, noting that some institutions, including the Ministry of Finance, have begun applying it while others have not.
