Former Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has officially declared his intention to contest for the flagbearer position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), ahead of the party’s next internal leadership race.
In a post shared on Wednesday, June 18, Dr. Adutwum stated: “With humility, conviction, and a resolute heart, I, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, declare my intent to run for the Flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), should nominations be officially opened by the party.”
The announcement follows weeks of speculation and prior promotional activity across various media platforms suggesting his interest. A similar post shared last month was later deleted, sparking public curiosity about his final position.
This latest declaration, made under the tagline #TheAdutwumFactor, marks Dr. Adutwum’s formal entry into the anticipated NPP flagbearership contest. He joins a growing list of contenders seeking to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
Dr. Adutwum served as Minister of Education under the Akufo-Addo administration and is noted for championing reforms in Ghana’s education sector, particularly in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
He joins other prominent party figures, including Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, and Dr. Bryan Acheampong, who have publicly expressed interest in contesting the NPP’s flagbearer slot.
