The Ghana Armed Forces says it has taken decisive administrative action as investigations continue into last week’s fatal stampede at the El-Wak Stadium, replacing the entire Greater Accra recruitment team to ensure an impartial probe.
In a statement, GAF said the Board of Inquiry set up to examine the circumstances leading to the incident is still at work. To safeguard the credibility of the findings, senior officers have been reassigned to key roles within the recruitment structure.
“To allow for fair and transparent investigations by the Board, the entire Greater Accra Recruitment team has been replaced,” the Armed Forces said.
The new appointments include Commodore F.A. Nyarko as Director General Human Resource, Colonel F. Kusi-Darko as Director Manpower, and Colonel G.B. Eduah as Director Information Technology. The move is seen as part of GAF’s effort to restore confidence in its recruitment process after the tragedy, which left six people dead and many injured.
GAF emphasised that the inquiry will be thorough and impartial. “The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to assure the general public that anyone found culpable from the Inquiry will be sanctioned accordingly,” the statement added.
The security institution has faced mounting public pressure following the incident, with calls for stronger crowd management and accountability in national recruitment exercises.
