The Ghana Meteorological Agency has alerted Ghanaians, especially those living in the southern areas, to expect more torrential rains in the coming days and weeks.
The southern areas comprise Greater Accra, including Tema and some parts of the Volta and Central Regions.
This was disclosed by Principal Meteorologist, Felicity Ahianyo, in an interview with the media on Tuesday.
This notice comes after rains triggered yet another flood in flood prone areas such as Kasoa, Kaneshie, Kwame Nkrumah Circle, and Adabraka on the dawn of Tuesday-the second major fall in 3 days after last Saturday to Sunday’s downpour.
Although the agency publishes daily forecasts on weather conditions, this call has become crucial considering the extent of damage floods have already caused in the aforementioned areas.
The Minister of Works and Housing has since Monday been visiting the affected areas and initiated moves to demolish buildings and structures in their ways and to desilt drains.
Ghana’s flooding situation, especially in Accra, has been a perennial challenge for successive governments to deal with.
