The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has officially declared Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta, former Minister of Finance, a fugitive from justice due to alleged corruption investigations.
Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, in a media briefing, outlined that the investigation involves key contracts, including Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited’s revenue assurance deal with the Ghana Revenue Authority, termination of ECG’s contract with Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology, and financial dealings related to the National Cathedral and National Ambulance Service.
Ofori-Atta, who left Ghana on January 2, 2025, was summoned for an interview on February 10, but his lawyers cited indefinite medical absence. The OSP rejected the excuse, demanding a clear return date by February 10. A medical letter was later submitted, but the OSP found it insufficient.
“The OSP declined Mr. Ofori-Atta’s request to be away from the jurisdiction indefinitely on medical grounds on his say-so.”
A purported raid on Ofori-Atta’s residence on February 11 was denied by the OSP, calling it staged or an imposter act.
“That cannot have been the OSP, and that is not our style. If the OSP enters your premises, you will not be in doubt as to whether it was the OSP, and your lawyers would not have cause to do an inquiry.
The OSP insists investigations will continue and has vowed legal steps to ensure Ofori-Atta’s return, giving him the choice to come back voluntarily or face enforced extradition.
