The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced the resumption of its 2025/2026 recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region, a week after operations were suspended following a deadly stampede at the El-Wak Stadium.
In a statement issued by the Department of Public Relations at Burma Camp, GAF said the exercise will restart on Thursday, 20 November 2025, with improved crowd-control measures and a decentralised screening system.
“As part of measures to ensure a seamless process, the screening will be done at eight sub-centres within five locations,” the statement said.
The screening centres include El-Wak Stadium (two centres), Nicholson Park at Burma Camp (two centres), the Air Force Base at Burma Camp, the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) in Teshie (two centres), and the Eastern Naval Command in Tema.
GAF said all qualified applicants will be processed in batches of 600, with each person receiving an SMS indicating their reporting date, batch number and designated centre. Applicants have also been urged to check the recruitment portal for updates and strictly follow instructions.
“Any qualified applicant who does not receive a text message by Thursday 20 November 2025 should call the helpline… for assistance,” the Armed Forces advised, adding that non-applicants will not be allowed into the screening areas.
The military further appealed to the public to cooperate to avoid overcrowding.
“Families and friends are cautioned not to accompany potential recruits to the screening centres to reduce congestion,” the statement stressed.
Inquiry and Leadership Changes
GAF disclosed that the Board of Inquiry set up to investigate the stampede—which claimed lives and left many injured—is continuing its work. To ensure transparency, the entire Greater Accra recruitment team has been replaced.
Commodore F.A. Nyarko, Colonel F. Kusi-Darko and Colonel G.B. Eduah have assumed new roles as Director General Human Resource, Director Manpower, and Director Information Technology respectively.
“The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to assure the general public that anyone found culpable from the Inquiry will be sanctioned accordingly,” the statement noted.
Support for Victims
GAF expressed regret over the tragedy and extended condolences to the affected families. “The Ghana Armed Forces regrets the unfortunate incident, and extends its deepest sympathies to the bereaved families, and also wishes the injured a speedy recovery.”
All injured persons will continue to receive free medical treatment at the 37 Military Hospital, while a special recruitment package will be offered to them after full recovery. A similar package will also be extended to the families of the deceased.
