The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has apologised to Ghanaians following the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
In a statement, the GFA expressed regret for the team’s inability to meet national expectations, acknowledging the disappointment and frustration this has caused among fans.
“We understand the disappointment and frustration this failure has caused, and we share in the pain and sadness of our beloved fans. We acknowledge that the team’s performance did not meet the high expectations of the nation, and for that, we are truly sorry,” the GFA said.
Despite the setback, the GFA extended its gratitude to fans for their unwavering support throughout the qualification campaign, emphasising that their passion remains a driving force for the team. “Your passion and dedication are what drive us to strive for excellence,” the statement added.
In response to the situation, the GFA Executive Council announced critical decisions aimed at addressing the challenges within the national team. As part of the measures, the Management Committee of the Black Stars has been dissolved, with the GFA expressing appreciation to the outgoing members for their service to Ghana football.
Additionally, the GFA has scheduled a meeting with Black Stars Head Coach Otto Addo on November 27, 2024. The discussions will focus on his technical report on the just-ended qualifiers and the overall performance of the technical team since his appointment earlier this year.
The association reiterated its commitment to improving the fortunes of Ghana football and restoring confidence in the national team.
