The Ministry of Defence says the Investigation Board established to probe the recent Z-9 helicopter crash has officially commenced its work.
“The Board is chaired by the National Security Coordinator, with membership drawn from the Ghana Air Force and the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA),” the Ministry said in a statement.
It added that “the United States of America is providing advice and assistance to the Board through visiting investigators from the U.S. Air Force.”
The Ministry further noted that the Board has the authority to invite “other relevant experts and institutions, both local and international, to assist with the investigation.”
Recalling the immediate steps taken after the crash, the Ministry explained: “On the day of the incident, 6th August 2025, a preliminary investigation team was constituted to gather all available evidence relating to the crash in support of the Board’s work. The preliminary investigation team is scheduled to submit its report to the Board today.”
The Board has been given a 30-day mandate to complete its work.
The statement was signed by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Acting Minister for Defence.
