The Electoral Commission has reacted to the circulating video showing a purported Voters Register for Ahafo Ano 1 and 2 being transported in a white pickup truck, urging the public to disregard the footage.
In a press release dated December 4, 2024, the EC clarified that the register depicted in the video is not theirs, emphasising that their official registers are black and white, not coloured as shown in the video.
“The Voters Register shown in the video is not that of the EC. The Commission’s registers are black and white and not coloured as shown in the video,” said Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman of the EC’s Operations.
The Commission also noted that it is standard practice for the EC to provide the Final Voters Register to political parties, who in turn print copies for their agents.
Furthermore, the EC highlighted that the white pickup truck in the video does not belong to the Commission.
The EC condemned the video as an attempt to sow suspicion and undermine public trust in the electoral process. “It is calculated to create suspicion and mistrust for the Commission and its work,” the release read.
The Commission called on the police to investigate the matter, with the registration number of the pickup truck visible in the video potentially aiding their enquiries.
