The proprietor of Nelmax Clinic at Lashibi, Madam Sena-Rose Deku, has called on authorities to, as a matter of urgency, halt the operations of a goat shed situated opposite her facility.
According to her, the rearing of the goats opposite her outfit has become the biggest challenge of all for her, citing the offensive stench from the feces of the goats.
She told The Sikaman Times that the operation of the shed has driven away more than half of her clients.
She also bemoaned the fact that the shed could be blatantly sited there without any regard for other establishments, adding that her building was the first to be established in the vicinity, although she moved in later.
According to her, she had little appreciation of the issues in the facility until she came down from Germany (where she had been practicing as a midwife) on retirement.
“The clinic was running well until my neighbour started rearing goats… The doctor who was running the clinic left. It has been six years now, and the whole clinic is empty”,
Madam Deku stated that she had been briefed that the goat shed belonged to a politician, specifically a minister, whose name she didn’t disclose. She additionally observed that this unnamed politician has gained support from other houses in the residential area that rear goats too.
She said the stench from the feces has not only collapsed her business, where she also resides, but also worsened her asthmatic condition.
Madam Deku further intimated that she once invited the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to ascertain the problem and assist with any corrective action; however, according to her, officers or the Agency have been adamant, purportedly because the shed is owned by a politician.
She demanded an immediate stop to the goat rearing activities and payment of compensation for her loss of business, worsened health condition, and destruction of plants at her facility.
