A member of the anti-illegal mining task force has been declared fit to return to duty after surviving a gunshot wound sustained during a field operation earlier this year, the Ministry for Lands and Natural Resources has revealed.
Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Morris Addae, a member of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), was shot in the thigh on January 20, 2026.
The incident occurred when unknown assailants opened fire on the task force along the Subinkurom–Kyeremasu stretch in the Dormaa Central Municipality.
After receiving intensive care and rehabilitation at the St. Matthew Catholic Hospital in Ampenkuro, L/Cpl Addae was visited by a government delegation led by the NAIMOS Director of Operations, Colonel Dominic Buah.
During the visit, the soldier expressed his gratitude to the Sector Minister, Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, for the support received during his recovery.
The Secretariat has reaffirmed its intent to continue its crackdown on “galamsey” (illegal small-scale mining), which has caused significant environmental degradation across Ghana.
“NAIMOS remains resolute in its mandate and will continue with all routine operations in line with the vision of President John Dramani Mahama to combat illegal mining,” the Ministry said.
