The leadership of Perez Chapel International has announced a one-week fast and prayer session over recent controversies with the authorities of the Nogokpo shrine in the Volta Region.
“On the 25th of last month, during our Supernatural Empowerment Summit, Archbishop Charles Agyinasare made a statement concerning the Nogokpo issue. I think we are all aware of the issue in Ghana. It is trending on social media and other platforms. We, the Perez Council, on behalf of the Executive Council, have taken notice of all these things, and this is what the Executive Council is saying. We are declaring a one-week fast from the 5th to the 11th of this month, and we expect all pastors, elders, deacons, deaconesses, and all our churches to participate in this fast for one week,” the presiding bishop of the church, Benjamin Aboagye, announced to the members of the church on Sunday, June 4th.
“We believe that God is our helper. He is our rock. He is the one we look up to”, the presiding bishop added.
Founder and general overseer of the church, Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, had in a sermon at the summit remarked that Nogokpo is the demonic headquarters in the Volta region, citing a spiritual attack he and a team of pastors encountered at a crusade some time ago.
However, the comments did not sit well with the leaders of the popular shrine, who accused the Archbishop of disdaining their religion and the people of the town of Nogokpo.
It also triggered discussions on social media, with some criticizing the renowned minister for going overboard while others supported his stance as the truth.
On Friday, June 2, the leaders of the shrine summoned Archbishop Agyinsare to appear before them within 14 days, failing which he would face their wrath.
Meanwhile, the head of the Dzorwulu-based church explained in a sermon on May 28 that he did not mean to insult the people of Nogokpo and the Volta region, adding that his wife hails from the region.
“I wish to clarify that I never intended to refer to the town but to an incident that happened after a crusade at Aflao. I had absolutely no intention to cast a slur on the people of Nogokpo town and the Volta Region as a whole,” he stated.
