The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially opened nominations for party members interested in contesting as presidential candidates in the 2028 general elections.
Announcing the move at a press briefing in Accra on Monday, the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, said the nomination window begins today, July 29, 2025, and will close on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
“I’m happy to announce to you that we have officially opened nominations for our party members to become presidential candidates of our party for the 2028 elections,” Mr Kodua said.
Nomination forms are priced at GH₵100,000, with a final filing fee set at GH₵500,000. Party sources say internal guidelines have been issued to ensure a transparent and competitive process.
The party is scheduled to hold its presidential primaries on January 31, 2026.
So far, leading party figures including Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Yaw Osei-Adutwum, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong have publicly declared their intentions to contest the flagbearership of the party, although some polls have suggested a tight race between Dr. Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong.
