The Tamale Metropolitan Health Insurance Authority has embarked on an exercise to refund unlawful charges by health facilities to patients.
Speaking to the press at the Northern Regional Hospital, the manager of Tamale Metropolitan NHIA, Abdul-Ganiyu Ahmed, said a total of 27 patients were illegally charged to pay for accredited services by NHIA, of which only 12 were able to receive a refund of their monies.
He added that the rest of the patients who were not able to retrieve their money were due to the unavailability of receipts for payments.
According to him, the refund claims of such patients would be traced in the system for confirmation.
Mr. Ahmed indicated that they have been continuously monitoring the activities of facilities in the metropolis, which he believes has yielded positive outcomes in that there is a lot of illegality happening at the various health facilities.
“We are not stopping here; our next steps will be in Kabsad Hospital and SDA Hospital, both in Tamale.”
“And we urged all patients who have paid for accredited services to kindly report to the Tamale Metropolitan National Health Insurance Authority,” he reiterated.
