The death of an 18-year-old final-year student from O’Reilly Senior High School in Accra, who was stabbed on campus on Monday and pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital has triggered a crucial meeting between the Ghana Education Service and the management of the school over how discipline is maintained on campus.

The victim, a General Arts student, was reportedly engaged in an argument, with a colleague over whose father was richer. This happened after they had finished writing an exams.

This degenerated into fisticuffs and Edward Borketey Sackey was stabbed multiple times.

The suspect has only been identified as Godwin, from the Visual Arts class.

He has been arrested by the police.

Videos and photos shared on social media showed colleague students in a desperate move, rushing Sackey to the hospital.

However, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A photo of the victim lying unconscious on a white cloth on the floor has also been shared on social media.

Following the Monday incident, a crunch meeting involving the Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, the Municipal Director of Education at the Ledzokuku Krowor Municipal Assembly (LEKMA), and the management of O’Reilly Senior High School was called on Tuesday.

The Greater Accra Regional Director of Education, Stephen Abamfo, has said an investigation was underway aside from efforts to ensure safety on campus.

Meanwhile, the father of the victim has said he has still not received any official information on the incident almost 24 hours after it happened.

Together with some family members, they mobilised themselves and went to the school campus where in an interaction with the media, they demanded justice.
