The Member of Parliament for Amenfi Central, Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe, has launched a free breast cancer screening programme to promote health awareness and save lives in her constituency.

The initiative, which targets ten districts within her jurisdiction, began on October 14, 2025, at Manso Amenfi, the district capital.

Hon. Joana Gyan Cudjoe said the exercise is designed to create awareness, educate both women and men about breast cancer, and encourage early detection.

She was joined by a team of doctors, nurses, and health volunteers who offered free medical screening and education to community members.

“Many people lose their lives because they don’t detect cancer early. This program is to remind us that our health matters.”

“I want every woman and man to know that breast cancer can be treated when detected early,” the MP stated during her address.

The medical team held an interactive session with participants, addressing concerns about breast cancer and explaining its signs and symptoms, including lumps, sharp pains, and unusual discharge from the breast. “Early detection saves lives. If you notice any change in your breast, don’t wait—report it to a health facility immediately,” one of the doctors advised.

Participants were also taught how to perform self-breast examinations and were cautioned against excessive alcohol consumption. The doctors explained that while alcohol does not directly cause breast cancer, it can weaken the body’s ability to respond to treatment. “Alcohol weakens the body’s ability to respond to treatment, so patients must avoid it to improve recovery,” the medical team emphasized.

Hon. Gyan Cudjoe reaffirmed her commitment to health advocacy, noting that the campaign will continue across all ten districts.

“This is just the beginning. We will continue this campaign across all ten districts so that everyone, especially women, has access to knowledge, early screening, and proper medical care,” she said.
