President John Dramani Mahama has announced the first set of nominees for Regional Minister positions, submitting their names to Parliament for approval. The list features a diverse group of professionals with extensive experience in governance, education, healthcare, and community development.
The nominees include individuals with strong backgrounds in public service and leadership.
Northern Region: Ali Adolf John, an education professional and current Northern Regional Chairman of the NDC, has been nominated. With qualifications in Education and Technology from the University of Education, Winneba, he has extensive experience as a tutor, Circuit Supervisor, and Desk Officer in the Ghana Education Service.
Oti Region: John Kwadwo Gyapong, a Business Executive and former Member of Parliament for the Akan Constituency, is the nominee. Currently serving as the NDC Regional Chairman for Oti, Gyapong holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Cape Coast.
Volta Region: James Gunu, a veteran media practitioner and former MCE for Akatsi, has been nominated. Gunu brings a wealth of experience with degrees in Journalism, Development Communication, and Local Government Administration.
Eastern Region: Mrs. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, a seasoned leader in governance and education, is the nominee. She has an MPhil in Leadership from the University of Professional Studies, Accra, and is currently pursuing a PhD in Migration at the University of Ghana. A strong advocate for women’s empowerment, Mrs. Awatey has served in various leadership roles, including as Presiding Member of the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly.
Ashanti Region: Dr. Frank Amoakohene, a medical professional and youth leader, is set to take charge. Dr. Amoakohene holds multiple degrees, including a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, and has a notable record in healthcare governance.
Upper East Region: Akamugri Donatus Atanga, with a background in Human Rights and Education, has been nominated. He is a former Coordinator of the National School Feeding Programme and has served as Presiding Member of the Bongo District Assembly.
Ahafo Region: Charity Gardiner, a businesswoman and Human Resource Professional, is the choice for Ahafo. Known for her commitment to girl child education and empowerment, she holds Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Human Resource Management.
Savannah Region: Salisu Be-Awuribe, a Law Lecturer, Lawyer, and Development Expert, has been named. Be-Awuribe has previously served as District Chief Executive of the Central Gonja District.
Greater Accra Region: Linda Ocloo, a Member of Parliament, has been nominated for this crucial region.
