The Office of the Special Prosecutor has charged the President’s nominee for the New Juaben Municipality, Alexander Kwabena Sarfo-Kantanka, with 26 counts of corruption in respect of two public elections in September and November 2021 for the confirmation or otherwise of his nomination.
In a statement signed by the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, he is to appear before the Kumasi High Court (Criminal Division) on June 1, 2022.
The assembly rejected Mr. Sarfo Kantanka’s nomination, despite alleged bribes having been paid to 26 assembly members. A viral video of Mr. Sarfo Kantanka vehemently demanding a refund of purported bribes hit social media in late 2021.
Mr. Sarfo Kantanka had allegedly paid GHC 5,000 each to facilitate his confirmation by the assembly members.
He was subsequently arrested by the police for questioning, following which the Special Prosecutor invited him on November 2, 2021.
