Telecommunications providers in Ghana have started offering customers larger data packages, fulfilling a policy directive initiated by Communications Minister Sam Nartey George.
The changes, effective from July 1, follow the minister’s earlier declaration that data bundle offerings would be reviewed to ensure better value for consumers.
Figures shared at a press briefing on June 10 indicate significant enhancements across high-tier data packages.
Network | Bundle Price | Previous Data | Revised Data | Percentage Increase |
---|---|---|---|---|
MTN Ghana | GHS 399 | 92.88 GB | 214 GB | 130% |
AirtelTigo Ghana | GHS 400 | 195 GB | 236 GB | 21% |
Telecel Ghana | GHS 400 | 190 GB (varied) | 250 GB | 32–38% |
The move forms part of a broader strategy to improve digital access and affordability.
In addition to the changes in data allocations, the three major telcos have committed a combined investment of $150 million to upgrade their network infrastructure by the end of the year.
To ensure compliance and service quality, the National Communications Authority (NCA) is scheduled to conduct independent audits in the final quarter of 2025.
Companies that fail to meet service standards may be fined, with 40 percent of any penalties expected to be returned to customers through data compensation.
