The management of the University of Ghana has initiated internal disciplinary processes following a widely circulated video capturing a heated confrontation between two of its senior members during a live media programme.
The incident occurred on Saturday, 15 November 2025, during a panel discussion on The Key Points, a current affairs show on TV3. The exchange between Professor Ransford Gyampo and Dr George Domfeh escalated into a personal altercation, portions of which have been shared extensively on social media.
In a statement issued on Friday, 21 November 2025, the university said it had taken note of the development and had activated internal review mechanisms in line with the University of Ghana Statutes (2024) and the Code of Conduct for Academic Senior Members (2011).
According to management, the processes will examine the conduct of both academics and determine any disciplinary actions required.
“The University demands high standards of professionalism, integrity and decorum from all faculty and staff and expects all members of the University community to uphold these values in both public and private engagements,” the statement noted.
It added that management remains committed to protecting the dignity of the institution and maintaining public confidence in the university.
Background
On 15 November 2025, Professors Ransford Gyampo and George Domfeh appeared together on TV3’s current affairs programme The Key Points, where a policy discussion quickly degenerated into personal attacks. Off-camera footage later circulated on social media appeared to show the confrontation nearly turning physical, with production staff stepping in to separate the two.
During the clash, Dr Domfeh levelled a serious allegation, claiming that Prof. Gyampo “sleeps with underage girls.” Gyampo’s lawyers have dismissed the claim as “reckless, false, and malicious,” and the professor has demanded a public retraction and apology within 24 hours, failing which he intends to pursue legal action.
TV3 management expressed regret over the incident, describing it as unfortunate, and announced that the station would introduce stricter protocols to prevent similar occurrences. Dr Domfeh has, however, accused the broadcaster of editing out portions of the exchange, including what he claims was an attempt by Gyampo to throw a punch.
Despite the public fallout, the two academics later indicated that they had “smoked the peace pipe”, with Dr Domfeh saying they held a long and cordial phone conversation during which he acknowledged making distasteful comments, apologised, and agreed with Gyampo to move forward with renewed respect.
