A pressure group, Election Watch Ghana, has asked the Electoral Commission to make available to them data on all Ghana Journalist Association members qualified to vote in the December elections.
The group argues that having access to this data will foster transparency and accountability.
In a letter to the EC dated July 5, 2024 and sighted by The Sikaman Times, Election Watch Ghana believes the processes that will enable the EC to furnish them with the data are administrative rather than constitutional.
“As this arrangement is a decision rather than a constitutional provision, we seek transparency to ensure the integrity of the electoral process,” the letter partly read.
“As national youth organisers of our respective political parties and conveners of Election Watch Ghana, we consider this information vital to our political activities and wish to ensure that the Electoral Commission (EC) grants us access to this data to promote openness, accountability, and collaboration,” it added.
In particular, the group requested the total number of GJA members eligible to partake in the special voting, a regional and constituency breakdown of the same, and the criteria used to determine the eligibility of the members.
