President John Dramani Mahama has declared three days of national mourning following the passing of former First Lady, Her Excellency Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
The period of mourning, which begins today, Friday, October 24, and ends on Sunday, October 26, 2025, will see all national flags flown at half-mast across public buildings, diplomatic missions, and government installations both in Ghana and abroad.
In a statement issued by the Minister for Government Communications and presidential spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President described the decision as a mark of respect for the late First Lady’s distinguished service to Ghana.
“This is in honour of her memory and in recognition of her distinguished service to our nation.”
“Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings served Ghana with dedication and commitment, particularly in women’s empowerment, child welfare, and social development,” the statement said.
The government expressed its profound sympathy to the bereaved family and all Ghanaians mourning her passing. “The Government extends its deepest condolences to the family, her children, and all who mourn this irreplaceable loss,” the statement added.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, was renowned for her advocacy for women’s rights and social justice.
As founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement, she played a pivotal role in advancing gender equality and community development across the country.
