The Adenta Circuit Court has granted bail to nine persons accused in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo.

The accused — Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo, also known as Akofena, Tamaklo Safo Jehosaphat, Kwabena Safo, Benjamin Amoakwa Sam, Badu Enoch, Richard Ayitey, Gideon Safo, Nana Kwaku Afriyie and Kwadwo Safo Koomson — pleaded not guilty to all charges when they appeared before the court.

The court admitted each accused person to bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 with two sureties.

The nine are facing five charges, namely the use of an offensive weapon, possession of firearms and ammunition without lawful authority, engaging in prohibited vigilante activities, discharging firearms within a town, and causing unlawful damage.

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on June 21, 2026, at a residence in Kwabenya during an installation ceremony for the successor to the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, founder of Kristo Asafo.

Prosecutors told the court that armed men allegedly prevented Sarah Adwoa Safo from entering the premises, leading to a confrontation that escalated into an exchange of gunfire.

The prosecution said the former legislator sustained multiple gunshot wounds, including injuries to her lower jaw, left ear, the back of her head and the left side of her face. Her Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, valued at GH¢450,000, was also reportedly damaged during the incident.

Investigators said a search conducted after the incident led to the recovery of six Mossberg pump-action guns, three pistols, 33 rounds of 9mm ammunition and 42 AA cartridges.

Further searches allegedly uncovered three additional loaded pistols containing a total of 33 rounds of ammunition.

The prosecution also told the court that a search at another property belonging to Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo yielded 120 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 50 rounds of .40 calibre ammunition and 25 rounds of .45 calibre ammunition.

Court documents indicate that Israel Nana Kwadwo Safo was arrested on June 22 after allegedly admitting ownership of the ammunition found at the property.

However, he denied any involvement in the shooting incident, claiming during investigations that he had left the scene before the gunfire erupted.

The case has been adjourned to a later date as investigations continue.
