Following the controversies surrounding the transport by bus of some African Presidents to the Queen’s funeral venue, the UK’s Express News reports that the measure was put in place to “ease traffic congestion”.
No sooner had photos of Kenya’s William Ruto and Tanzania’s Samia Suhulu riding on a bus to West Minster Abbey, the venue for the royal farewell, emanated than social media enthusiasts began to discuss the selective treatment being meted out to African leaders attending the service.
The Express News portal also reported that the White House demanded that Biden travel via a six-car motorcade for “security reasons”. Their request was granted by UK officials, hence the development.
Some G7 countries, including France’s Emmanuel Macron, Japan’s Emperor Naruhito, and Canada’s Justin Trudeau, sent their own convoys to the venue for “security reasons.”
Additionally, other guests, such as the royal families of European countries, were excluded from the bus ride.
However, according to the portal, the rest of the guests, including African heads of states, were transported in buses to “ease traffic congestion”.
