The police have confirmed the arrest of the suspect behind the killing case at Wa in the Upper West Region.

The suspect, identified as Kankani Adongo, was arrested on Monday following a collaboration between the regional police command and community members.

According to the police, the suspect is in custody and will be arraigned before the court to face justice.

Earlier in the day, the police had assured the public that they would continue to maintain law and order in the Wa Municipality and surrounding communities, adding that a combat team had saturated the area to ensure the safety and security of all.

“We wish to assure residents of the Wa Municipality and its environs that the special intelligence and investigation teams will continue to work around the clock with assistance from the affected communities to bring the perpetrators to face justice.”

In all, 10 private security men have been killed by unknown assailants in Wa within the last nine months, with the latest incident happening last Friday.

This angered youth in the area, who protested the incessant killings.

The special-purpose police intelligence and investigation teams, working with members of the community on Sunday, September 18, discovered a body in a shallow grave at Bamahu, a suburb of Wa.

Family members of the deceased later identified the body as Seidu Baga, who was reported missing on Thursday.

The body was subsequently exhumed and conveyed to the Regional Hospital, Wa for autopsy and investigation.

Police have also said they are providing clinical psychologists to offer psychosocial support to the family.

Following the murder of private security workers in the region, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, is in Wa, the regional capital of the Upper West, to apprise himself of the security situation in the town.

The IGP went on a security tour of the municipality with a few members of the Police Management Board and the Regional Police Command and later visited the Overlord of the Wa Traditional Area, Wa Naa Seidu Fuseini Pelpuo IV.
