AfriTech Hub, a non-profit organization, has celebrated this year’s World Menstrual Hygiene Day, dubbed “The Red Comfort Initiative,” in Tamale.
They visited four basic schools in Tamale, which are Gbanyamni Methodist Primary and JHS, Kanvili Nuriya Islamic Primary School, and Jana JHS, to distribute sanitary pads to female students.
Speaking to the media, the Director of AfriTech Hub, Dr. Arnold Mashud, revealed that this initiative was championed by his organization to help educate young girls on menstrual hygiene and other female health-related issues.
He added that the young girls usually face challenges during their period of menstruation, which makes them uncomfortable with their colleagues and even leads to many dropping out of school.
Dr. Arnold Masud pleaded with the government to help abolish the tax on sanitary pads to enable their accessibility to all.
Madam Emelia Asamoah, headmistress of Gbanyamni Methodist Primary, thanked the AfriTech Hub for the kind gesture shown to the young girls in education.
