Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen’s Movement for Change has officially rebranded as the United Party (UP Plus), a move the former Trade and Industry Minister says marks “a new dawn” in Ghana’s political landscape.
The transformation, unveiled at a ceremony in Accra, revives the historic “United Party” name while symbolising a renewed push for accountability, competence, and inclusive governance.
Party Chairman Abubakar Saddique Boniface said UP Plus would serve as a credible alternative focused on values-driven leadership.
“Today, we present to you the United Party, or UP Plus. The UP Plus is a political organisation meant to bring real change to governance,” he said. “We will make a difference because of our focus on universal values and respect for the leadership of competence. We are not just taking people to lead us, but people who are credible, competent, and have a vision.”
Mr Kyerematen, who resigned from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2023, citing unfair treatment and internal divisions, described the rebrand as a turning point for Ghanaian politics.
“A new dawn that will bring about economic transformation, which will translate into massive job opportunities, usher in a golden age of business, and create prosperity for our country, Ghana,” he declared.
“A new dawn that will mobilise the collective strengths and talents of all Ghanaians for national development, irrespective of age, ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation. A new dawn that will promote accountable and transparent governance and introduce a policy of zero tolerance for corruption.”
Kyerematen added that the United Party seeks to end Ghana’s entrenched winner-takes-all system and lead the nation toward economic self-reliance and sustainable development.
The Electoral Commission officially registered UP Plus on October 3, 2025, cementing its status as Ghana’s newest political party.
“The vision of the United Party is to make Ghana the economic powerhouse of Africa by 2040,” Kyerematen affirmed.
