A Volta River Authority helicopter made an emergency landing in Nkawkaw, Eastern Region, on Monday morning after encountering poor visibility, officials say.
The aircraft, a Jet A-1-powered chopper with registration number 9G-AFW, was travelling from Accra to Kumasi when the pilot diverted to an open area near the Nkawkaw bypass in the Kwahu West Municipality. All crew members were reported safe, with no injuries.
According to aviation sources, the precautionary landing was made in response to deteriorating weather conditions in the area.
It is the second such incident in recent days. Late last week, another helicopter, carrying four passengers, landed unexpectedly in a school park at Ajumako Kokoben in the Central Region after hitting turbulent winds and reduced visibility mid-flight.
Onlookers gathered to watch as the aircraft remained grounded for about an hour before continuing its journey.
The incidents come less than a week after a military helicopter crash in Adansi Akrofoum, Ashanti Region, claimed the lives of eight people, including Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Murtala Mohammed.
