The presidential candidate of the NPP for the 2024 elections, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has discredited the NDC’s 24-hour economy policy, saying the former president John Mahama lacks a thorough understanding of his proposal.

Speaking to NPP supporters at Nalerigu in the North East region on Monday, Dr. Bawumia contended that some sectors, including utilities, health, oil marketing, and hospitality, already have a 24-hour arrangement in place with employees who work at various times.

“John Mahama says he has a new idea. What is the idea? He says he wants a 24-hour economy. He doesn’t even understand that policy. Today in Ghana, our hospitals work 24 hours a day, our electricity company works 24 hours a day, our water company works 24 hours a day, our fuel stations work 24 hours a day, and many chop bars work 24 hours a day,” Dr. Bawumia stated.

He also observed that the digitalization strategies that have been implemented by the NPP government allow for payments and other electronic transactions to be carried out anytime during the day and night.

“Today, because of digitalization, you can transfer money 24 hours a day and receive money 24 hours a day. So he doesn’t understand his own policy. It doesn’t make sense,” the Vice President added.

Dr. Bawumia also criticised Mr. Mahama for his numerous promises to Ghanaians in his Building Ghana Tours, scolding him for not being responsive to the needs of Ghanaians when he was president.

“Today, John Mahama is going around the country, and he is speaking to people as if he has never been president before. When we were suffering under his presidency, he told us he was a dead goat. A dead goat who had no feelings. Today he wants to resurrect and become a live goat.”

John Mahama and the NDC announced the 24-hour economy as one of the key programmes they will implement if voted on by Ghanaians.

According to them, the policy will drastically reduce unemployment levels among the youth.
