Vice President and New Patriotic Party flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has unveiled a state-of-the-art office complex for the Lands Commission in Accra, recounting how his 2018 visit to the Commission inspired the initiative.

During the commissioning ceremony on Monday, November 25, 2024, Dr. Bawumia shared his observations from his initial visit to the Commission’s office, where he witnessed the challenges staff faced, including files scattered across floors and the need to retrieve documents from multiple external locations.

These conditions, he noted, highlighted the urgency of modernising the institution.

Located opposite the 37 Military Hospital, the newly constructed office complex aims to streamline land administration processes and boost efficiency.

Dr. Bawumia emphasised the Lands Commission’s pivotal role in Ghana’s economy, noting that land-related activities support the livelihoods of 90% of Ghanaians, according to the Ghana Statistical Service.

He described the facility as a crucial step toward fostering economic growth, social cohesion, and an attractive investment climate.

Hon. Samuel Jinapor, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, commended the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia-led administration for prioritising infrastructure development. He praised Dr. Bawumia’s hands-on approach, recalling the vice president’s unannounced visit to the commission, which catalysed the transformation.

The minister also highlighted other significant milestones under the administration, including the commissioning of the reconstructed Apiatse community and Ghana’s first gold refinery earlier this year.

He expressed gratitude to Dr. Bawumia for his dedication to addressing the Commission’s challenges and delivering a modern facility to enhance its operations.

The new office complex is expected to significantly improve land administration services, reinforcing its vital role in national development.
