The Jaman North district director of veterinary services in the Bono region, Mr. Iddris Yahya, has cautioned the general public to be very concerned about the health of their domestic animals, especially dogs, to avoid rabid infections.
He stated that rabies can infect other animals and human beings, which can eventually lead to their death.
Mr. Yahya told Ark News reporter, Kwaku Mensah Abrampa, in an exclusive interview that rabies has no cure after the signs and symptoms are detected from infected animals’ bites.
According to Mr. Yahya, it is necessary for households to ensure the frequent vaccination of their domestic animals to guarantee their utmost health.
He also outlined some signs and symptoms of rabies in animals and humans, indicating that affected dogs may quickly become restless, irritable, and show aggression.
Other symptoms he noted include fever, difficult swallowing, excessive drooling, staggering, seizures, or paralysis.
He explained further that as the virus progresses, the dog may act as though they are overstimulated, meaning lights, movement, and sound may appear to have a negative effect, indicating that they may seek out a dark, quiet place to hide or act aggressively.
“Also, people who are suffering from rabies may develop excessive fever, headaches, excess salivation, muscle spasms, paralysis, and mental confusion,” he added.
