Bongo Ideas: Security officials refute reports of arrest of blogger
SharePostSendShareSend

The Ghana Police Service and National Security Ministry say they have not arrested controversial blogger Bongo Ideas, as reported in sections of the media.

On Thursday, reports were rife on social media that Bongo Ideas, formally known as Nat Hyde, had been picked up by national security officers, although no further details about the arrest were provided.

This follows an interview by a family relative of Bongo with another blogger about how Bongo was arrested by some unknown persons in the wee hours of Thursday.

Bongo, who is famed for sparking up controversy among public figures, last posted about the 1st lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, mocking her over her conjugal relationship to the President, H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo.

But in separate statements on Friday, March 15, 2024, the two security agencies stated that they were not aware of any arrest or detention of Bongo Ideas.

“The attention of the Ghana Police Service has been drawn to social media reports that one Albert Nat Hyde, a.k.a. Bongo Ideas, has been arrested by the police.”

“The Ghana Police Service has not arrested the said individual. The police have contacted a relative who has confirmed that Bongo Ideas is at home,” the police noted in their statement.

“The Ministry of National Security has taken note of claims on social media that its personnel have allegedly arrested Albert Nat Hyde. The Ghanaian public should take note that no such arrest has been effected by the Ministry of National Security or its allied agencies,” the statement from the National Security Ministry said.

Bongo Ideas has yet to comment or post on his rumoured arrest.
