Teaching and non-teaching staff of colleges of education in Ghana have declared a strike action effective Monday, November 14, 2022, following the government’s failure to address their concerns within the stipulated timeframe.
The associations, Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) and Colleges of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana (CENTSAG), in a joint statement on November 13, 2022, indicated that they made a decision to recommence their strike after separate emergency meetings on November 11 and 12, respectively.
They suspended an initial industrial action and issued a statement on November 6, giving the government five (5) days to address their concerns, which include unilateral variation of a memorandum of understanding and condition of service by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, “unfair” retrospective deduction of some allowances of members of CETAG and CENTSAG, undue delay in the payment of compensation for all-year round work, and variations in the payment of fuel, off-campus, and vehicle maintenance allowances as compared with other tertiary institutions.
According to the statement, staff of the security departments of colleges of education are excluded from the strike action.
