The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has warned the public against sharing sexually explicit images and videos involving Senior High School students, saying those responsible risk lengthy prison sentences.
In a public notice, the Authority said the creation, possession or circulation of such material is a serious criminal offence under the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038).
The CSA pointed to Section 62 of the law, which prohibits producing, publishing, streaming or keeping indecent images of children on electronic devices, including mobile phones and computers.
“Any person found circulating sexually explicit videos or photographs of children is liable to a term of imprisonment of not less than five years and not more than ten years,” the statement said.
The Authority said there would be no leniency for offenders, adding that individuals, bloggers and institutions involved in the spread of such content would be prosecuted.
It urged members of the public to stop the circulation immediately by deleting any such material received and reporting those who share it.
It further announced that reports of cybercrime or cybersecurity incidents can be made by calling or texting 292, via WhatsApp on 0501603111, or by email at report@csa.gov.gh.
