District-level elections (DLEs) in a few Ashanti and Eastern regions have been rescheduled by the Electoral Commission for Thursday, December 21, 2023.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Commission stated that multiple technical difficulties had forced the postponement.

“The Commission wishes to inform the general public that, due to a number of technical challenges, the district-level elections in some electoral areas in the Ashanti and Eastern regions have been rescheduled to Thursday, December 21, 2023.”

The EC promised to hold the elections on the rescheduled date and expressed regret for the inconveniences created in the affected areas.

“We apologise for the inconveniences caused to residents of these electoral areas. We assure the residents of the affected areas that the district-level elections will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023,” the EC stated.

In a related event, the NDC has warned the EC to be wary of its conduct ahead of the 2024 polls.

The Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the Party, Jamal Konneh, said in a statement on Tuesday that they are not satisfied with the reasons for postponement in some constituencies as provided by the EC in their statement.

“On a new day for the elections for constituencies that couldn’t hold their elections today, we have received a release from the EC indicating Thursday, December 21, 2023, as the new date for the elections. Inasmuch as we disagree with the EC on the new date for the elections, we think the EC statement should have given reasons for the mess.”

“Moving into 2024, the region would not entertain such a mess and wishes to caution the EC to abort any agenda to repeat this mess in 2024 to prevent any mayhem on Election Day,” he said.
