On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, the Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, is scheduled to deliver the 2024 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament in accordance with Section 28 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921).
This will be Dr. Amin Adam’s first presentation in Parliament since taking up his position as Finance Minister in February 2024.
The presentation’s objectives are to give the House an update on the government’s 2024 budget’s implementation as well as updated financial goals and Ghana’s economic forecast.
The Finance Ministry said in a statement on Monday, July 22, that the review would offer an update on how the 2024 budget is being implemented as well as insights into the fiscal and economic performance of the first half of the year.
The Minister will inform the House on financing, debt sustainability, revenue, spending performance, and growth metrics.
He is also expected to provide further clarity on the bailout packages for failed financial institutions amid growing agitation from customers.
There would also be an update on the $3 billion Post-COVID-19 Programme for Economic Growth (PC-PEG), being supervised by the International Monetary Funds.
Analysts project that the government will not be significantly reviewing its taxation measures.
In his last reading of the budget, former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta disclosed that the government is committed to spending within budget despite 2024 being an election year.
