EC debunks claims of separate voting dates for presidential candidates

The Electoral Commission (EC) has refuted claims circulating in the media that different voting dates will be assigned to some presidential candidates in the upcoming General Election.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Commission described the claims, attributed to a presenter on Wontumi TV, as misleading and urged the public to disregard them.

The EC reaffirmed that the 2024 General Election will take place nationwide on Saturday, 7 December 2024, as scheduled. Voting will commence at 7:00 AM and close at 5:00 PM on the same day.

The Commission encouraged registered voters to participate in the election process, emphasising the importance of a peaceful and orderly exercise.

The Ghana Police Service announced on Saturday, November 23, the arrest of Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a presenter with Wontumi FM/TV, for allegedly spreading false information about the December 7 general elections.

In a viral video, Oheneba claimed that voters would cast their ballots for presidential candidates on different days—a statement authorities have dismissed as false and potentially capable of inciting public unrest.

After being invited for questioning and subsequently arrested, Oheneba Nana Asiedu has since been released on bail, pending further investigations.
