The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has pledged US$250,000 to support victims of the recent floods in Ghana, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The donation, equivalent to approximately GH¢3 million, is intended to support relief efforts following the devastating floods that affected parts of the country.

In a press statement dated August 2, 2026, the Ministry said it had been notified by ECOWAS of its decision to provide the financial assistance.

The Ministry said it would hand over the full amount for the intended beneficiaries once the funds are received in its accounts.

“The Foreign Ministry will hand over the entire funds as soon as we receive it in our accounts,” the statement said.

The government expressed appreciation to the regional bloc for the support, describing the gesture as a demonstration of solidarity with Ghana.

“The Government of Ghana conveys boundless appreciation to ECOWAS for their solidarity and true African compassion,” the Ministry said.

The contribution comes as the government and other stakeholders continue relief and recovery efforts following the recent floods, which caused significant damage and displaced residents in affected communities.

The ECOWAS support is expected to complement ongoing national efforts to provide assistance to flood victims and address the immediate humanitarian needs arising from the disaster.
