The Ministry of the Interior has declared Friday, June 6, 2025, as a statutory public holiday to mark the celebration of Eid-ul-Adha.
This announcement was made in a statement dated Thursday, May 29, and signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak. The ministry called on the general public to observe the day as a holiday nationwide.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most important observances on the Islamic calendar. It honors the profound faith of Prophet Ibrahim, who was prepared to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, in obedience to God’s command.
The festival coincides with the completion of Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca and one of Islam’s five pillars. Celebrated on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah—the final month of the Islamic calendar—Eid-ul-Adha is often referred to as the “Greater Eid.”
The day is marked by special congregational prayers, the ritual sacrifice of animals, and acts of generosity, as Muslims worldwide come together in devotion, charity, and fellowship.
